How can my child improve speed without making more mistakes?
A
Speed should develop naturally through mastery and familiarity, not by rushing through questions.
- Build accuracy before trying to increase speed.
- Practise Mental Sums regularly to improve number fluency and calculation speed.
- Use timed Focused Practice for short, controlled speed practice.
- Repeat common question types using Generate New until the solving method becomes automatic.
- Gradually progress to timed PSLE Look-Alike Exams.
- Review which questions took the longest and revisit those Concepts separately.
- Teach your child to skip difficult questions and return to them later instead of getting stuck.
- Speed comes from strong understanding, regular practice and confidence—not from rushing.
